Background
The Mohnton Lions Club has brought the great tradition of Soap Box Derby racing back to the Greater Reading area encompassing most of Berks County, PA.
The inaugural race was held on 6/2/07 with just 16 Stock Division Racers. On 5/17/2008 the 2nd race was held with 21 Stock racers and 13 Super Stock Racers competing for a chance to head to the World Championship. Momentum continues to grow.
This will be a double elimination race with two divisions. Two children will race each other, then change lanes and wheels and race again. The child with the fastest overall time difference will win the heat. Lose two heats and the racer is eliminated.
History
The Mohnton Pushmobile Derby started in 1941 and was sponsored by the Mohnton Boy Scouts. Races were run on Walnut Street in Mohnton until 1966. The Mohnton Lions Club presented winners with Trophies in the sixties.
The Mohnton Lions Club Now runs the Soap Box Derby since the inaugural race in 2007.
